This is just the beginning of a new year, but we can already see how gaming's future will look based on the current trends. No, I don't know what they are. Take a look around and see if there are any ways you can join in!

VR Gaming Is Taking Over the World

It is augmented reality that brings games into the player's world, whereas virtual reality takes the player into the gaming world itself. VR games have existed for some time, but they made a major comeback a few years ago. Many businesses outside of the gaming industry are placing bets on this technology, so it appears to be here to stay. In spite of the fact that Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Sweeney predicted the metaverse would be here many years from now, the seeds they planted will begin to sprout in the year 2022. It's no longer necessary for companies to be physically grouped together in order to work and collaborate. For the first time in history, virtual reality gaming allows team members to meet face-to-face. The PS VR 2 from Sony, the VR headset from Apple, and even Meta's Cambria from Meta all have VR headsets in their future product plans. Oculus Rift, for example, is already on the market. For gamers around the world, virtual reality gaming is and will soon be a common experience.

Gaming's intellectual property value is boosted by transmedia.

Adapting a video game for the big screen or television seemed doomed to failure a few years ago, but that's no longer the case.

Netflix's adaptations of The Witcher and Arcane (from the League of Legends series) have been a huge success in the first two seasons, proving that video games can be successfully adapted for television. Both Sonic the Hedgehog and Detective Pikachu have shown that they can be made into movies. Illumination is working on an animated Mario Bros. film with major star power, which will be released later this year, along with the sequel to Sonic. However, this gaming craze isn't over yet. As part of a marketing strategy, video game characters are making crossover appearances. In addition to Jix from League of Legends, who appeared in Fortnite to promote Arcane, last year's Resident Evil movie stars Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield also appeared in the game. To help spread the word about the upcoming Horizon game, Alloy made appearances in Genshin Impact, Fortnite, and Fall Guys. For the Uncharted movie campaign, Nathan Drake also appeared in Fortnite, as Fortnite crossovers never seem to end. We can expect to see many more crossovers and movie adaptations in the gaming industry in the years to come in 2022 and beyond.

2022 Multi-Platform Gaming Content

Because of its pioneering role in mobile gaming, Nintendo is not widely recognized as a trendsetter in the video game industry. Nintendo has a string of hit mobile games under its belt, including Pokemon Go!, Mario Kart World Tour, and now Pokemon Unite. Since almost everyone has a smartphone within reach, it's reasonable to wonder why the gaming industry is focusing on mobile devices. Steam, on the other hand, plans to release Steam Deck in order to provide PC gamers with mobility (and PC games to the handheld console audience). In other words, it appears that in-game portability and mobility will be more prevalent in 2022.
