A world map that is as large as possible can be found in only one Elder Scrolls game

7/9/2022 5:21:44 PM

For its expansive open landscapes, various tasks, side missions, and riches to be found, and their stories, the Elder scrolls games are a favorite of gamers around the world. Our list of the Elder Scrolls series' largest planets will focus on those enormous, uncharted expanses.

The Offshoots

The other Elder Scrolls games will have their own section here. Includes Redguard, An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire and the whole Elder Scrolls Travels series as well as other recent releases. Among them, Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard appears to have the largest open-world map, however the game itself is linear rather than open-world.

As a prequel to Daggerfall, Battlespire takes place in the school of the same name, which offers little little in the way of exploration. No, you won't be able to explore these games either because they are dungeon-based titles for Nokia phones from the early 2000s. Lastly, The Elder Scrolls: Legends is a card game, so you can't actually explore at all.

Morrowind

Morrowind may be a favorite of old Elder Scrolls players, but it is the tiniest mainstream game to date when it comes to size. Morrowind is the tiniest of the major titles, with a total area of just 16 kilometers.

The action takes place on the island of Vvardenfell, which is part of Morrowind, the home of the Dark Elves. Nerevarine, a legendary protector of Morrowind, is the name given to the player's character in the game. Solstheim, a new island in the game's world, is included in the Bloodmoon expansion.

Skyrim

It is the most popular game in the series, thanks in part to its multiple re-releases. The Nordic people of Skyrim live in Tamriel, the region featured in the game. Dragonborn of prophecy: The player character is meant to slay Alduin and save the world from his rending.

The Morrowind isle of Solstheim was ironically included in both the Dawnguard and Dragonborn expansions. The extra 37 kilometers in Skyrim more than doubles the size of Morrowind.

Oblivion Elder Scrolls

Oblivion is the second most popular game in its series. As a result, it's a touch larger than Skyrim at 41 kilometers. Cyrodiil, the Empire's seat of power, is open for exploration by the player. Both Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles, Oblivion's second expansion, add an additional 10 kilometers of playable space.

Emperor Uriel Septim VII, who is about to be assassinated, gives the Amulet of Kings to a prisoner in Imperial City, where the player assumes the role of the Hero of Kvatch. As a result of this, Kvatch is saved from an attack by the Daedric Prince, Mehrunes Dagon, and a horde of demons from the realm of Oblivion by the Hero of Kvatch.

Daggerfall

For the most part, the biggest Elder scrolls game is Daggerfall. Approximately 161,000 kilometers of procedurally created globe await the player's exploration and quest-finding in this massively multiplayer online role-playing game. The game's primary story is just one piece of the puzzle, but every player's experience is a little bit different. Emperor Uriel Septim VII personally dispatched "the Agent" to Lilac Bay, where the story takes place.

In the end, the "Warp in the West" brought peace to the region by merging 44 kingdoms into four. While this game was originally meant to be an expansion for Battlespire, it ended up being a completely other game.

Game of the Elder Scrolls

The fact that Elder Scrolls Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game gives it an unfair advantage over its predecessors. It's constantly being improved and new features are constantly being added to it. However, unlike Daggerfall, this game is being built with great care. It doesn't use procedural generation to generate its world in Elder Scrolls Online. Everything is the way it is because of the work of the programmers.

The game is divided between zones rather than a continuous universe like Daggerfall, Skyrim, and the other Elder Scrolls titles. Even yet, the combined size of all the present zones is around 400km, which is larger than Daggerfall.

Arena of the Elders

However, Elder Scrolls: Arena is the largest Elder scrolls game ever made. The continent of Tamriel, the setting for all previous Elder Scrolls games, serves as the basis for the game's map. As the name suggests, the game was originally intended to be a fighting game. Over time, it evolved into a role-playing game. In theory, the player should be able to travel across the entire continent. According to Bethesda, the game has a total length of 9,656,000 kilometers, however other sources estimate it to be closer to 6,000,000 kilometers.

There are, however, a number of drawbacks to such a large investment. When the player tries to go between towns, the game appears to merely start looping the terrain on the player, thus the size is both nonexistent and theoretically endless. As a result, it would theoretically be the largest Elder Scrolls game ever developed if the area were endless. That's not quite true, however, as the game begins to fail after a while. Overall, Arena is the largest Elder scrolls game ever developed, however it contains multiple asterisks next to that accomplishment.
