The Infernal Hordes mechanic is the new wave system of Diablo 4 Season 5. You need overcome wave after wave of enemies which will only get harder and harder as you go. There's the best source of greater affix drops and various new uniques, not to mention the insane XP to time value while you're still leveling.  Read our D4 Season 5 Infernal Horde guide, we'll talk about the quests, compass, bosses, rewards, and tips.

How to Access Infernal Horde in Diablo 4 Season 5

To unlock the Infernal Hordes by following the new quest line “The Eyes of the Enemy” which you'll first have available in World Tier 3. It's a short story and it ends rather suddenly during the quest “Sins of the Willing” at which point you'll get your first infernal compass and using these you activate a special dungeon called The Infernal Hordes and then you complete it like you would any other nightmare dungeon.

D4 Season 5 Infernal Horde Tier System

All you need to do is kill all the enemies under limited revives. They just like that made dungeons that come in tiers which will increase the difficulty. The higher the tier but also the potential rewards. They go from tiers 1 to 8 currently. With tier 1 being your World Tier 3 option. Then everything above World Tier 2 and above that equates to World Tier 4. In your Infernal Horde tier 3 and above though, you'll start to get access to the guaranteed greater affix chest, so your goal is going to be getting into those tier 3 Infernal Hordes and above as soon as possible. However, the challenge will scale as you go higher. Tier ones provide a minimal challenge from levels to mechanics but at World Tier 2, you'll have six waves than the Fell Council to be. These enemies will be level 75 at tier 3 though that drops another 25 levels where you're facing level 100 enemies. This then scales up and up and up limiting your revives further as you eventually face level 200 enemies so yes it's going to get hard.

How to Get Infernal Compass in Diablo 5 Season 5?

Get Infernal Compass from your general gameplay and we have piles and piles of them when just doing nightmare dungeons. You can also craft them with the Occultist like nightmare dungeon sigil. But instead of Sigil Powder, they also cost Forgotten Souls for that. Definitely not worth it for Tiers 1, 2, and 3  since you're going to get those from nightmare dungeon rewards. But for higher tiers than that, it'll be more valuable.

How to upgrade Infernal Compass?

You can upgrade compasses by using Abyssal Scrolls on them which will upgrade a compass tier by one on use. You can get scrolls back from salvaging compasses. Since we get so many of them in normal gameplay, you're going to be salvaging quite a lot of them.

Diablo 4 Season 5 Infernal Horde Tips

Once you get in the Inferno Hordes in Diablo IV Season 5, you're going to be on a 60-second timer to complete as much as you can within that time. Be warned, you're not really going to get potions back during the waves more like you refill in between. So you gather as much Burning Aether as you can which is the currency of this game mode. At the end of the Hordes, you'll be able to spend that Aether to open chests to get the type of rewards that you can choose between that could be equipment materials or D4 gold. To maximize the Aether you get throug the Hord, you need to complete as many Aether events and maximize your Aether gains through the Boon choices you pick as you go. There's a bunch of types of these events to deal with and you want to try to complete every single one offered. Join a party is helpful because you you can't be everywhere at once compared to  four players splitting up to do every event.

How to Complete Aether Events in Diablo 4 S5?

  • Stay in one of the four corners of the map as much as possible. This will trigger the stationary encounters like Aetheric Mass and Soulspire as they spawn.

  • Be on the lookout for pulsating circles on the mini-map indicating upcoming events. Moving towards these locations will spawn the event.

  • Focus on killing summoned enemies like Aether Fiends, Hellborne, Aether Lords, and Infernal Demons as they appear. Check the mini-map for flame icons showing their locations.

  • Prioritize dealing with Aether Lords and Infernal Demons as they drop the most Burning Aether upon defeat.

  • Stay near groups of regular enemies to more quickly destroy Soulspires that appear linked to enemy kills in their area.

  • Use pets if available to automatically collect any Burning Aether drops, as they will not expire on the ground.

  • Continue killing all enemies and completing events that spawn throughout each wave to earn as much Burning Aether as possible within the timed period.

The Main Types of Encounters In D4 Aether Events

Aetheric Mass - A stationary bloody mass that damages players near it. Destroy it to gain Aether.

Soulspire - A stationary ring that will destroy when enemies within are killed, gaining Aether.

Aether Fiend - A summoned enemy that spawns randomly or from masses. Kill it to gain Aether.

Hellborne - Summoned enemies that spawn in groups of 3 near the player. Kill them to gain Aether.

Aether Lord - A summoned boss-like enemy with more health and abilities. Drops more Aether on defeat.

Infernal Demon - A rare summoned demon from a specific Infernal Offer. Drops a large amount of Aether.
