As Diablo 4 players are moving further and further into the end game, a major part of doing that is interacting quite heavily with item crafting and upgrading as a system. From tempering to enchanting to masterworking, all of this costs quite a lot of different material resources to actually accomplish. In this D4 Season 6 Iron Chunk and Rawhide farm guide, we'll talk about the best locations and methods to farm.

Diablo 4 Season 6 Iron Chunk & Rawhide Farming Guide

The biggest bottleneck for most of the people in Diablo 4 Season 6 Vessel of Hatred so far and a lot of the faster players have found has been Forgotten Souls. These were mostly used for either rerolling on master working or just for general masterworking on ancestral items specifically. This however was fixed quite effectively in a hot fix right before the weekend that changes the drop rates of these. With this a new bottleneck has started to appear which is Iron Chunks and Rawhide, these are the most basic crafting materials for most items required for pretty much any change that you want to make to a piece of gear in the game, and with Forbidden Souls.

1. Lair Bosses

Killing Lair Bosses repeatedly is one of the fastest ways to farm these materials, as bosses consistently drop a reasonable amount on death, especially on higher Torment difficulties. You need to have a build that can kill Lair Bosses very quickly to make this efficient. Fast boss killing on Torment 4 is ideal. You need to have the necessary boss summoning materials to constantly re-summon bosses without much delay between kills. Make sure to salvage all dropped items, as unique and ancestral unique items give decent returns of materials when salvaged.

This method relies on having a high-powered character and a stockpile of boss summoning materials. If those requirements aren't met, other farming methods may be more suitable. After the upcoming 2.0.3 patch, Lair Boss farming may become even more efficient as auto-salvage material drop rates are increasing based on difficulty.

2. Nightmare Dungeon

Run Nightmare Dungeons on the highest Torment level you can complete quickly, with Torment 4 being most rewarding. Look for longer Nightmare Dungeons that have more Elite packs, like Hontu Nightmare Dungeon. Elites drop materials at a higher rate. Specifically hunt down all Elite enemies in each dungeon for additional drops. Slowly clear the dungeon room-by-room to find all Elites rather than rushing to the boss.

The boss at the end of Nightmare Dungeons also drops materials, so clear all extras before finishing. Each run on Torment 4 can award a couple hundred of each material on average. Nightmare Dungeons can be completed quickly and repeatedly by many player builds. Consider using a Seething Opal of Materials for even more drops while running dungeons. After the patch, material drops from auto-salvage in Nightmare Dungeons may greatly increase as well.

3. Whispers of the Dead

The Whispers of the Dead system provides a efficient way to passively accumulate iron chunks and rawhide through normal gameplay. By completing the objectives that spawn randomly around the world map, players earn Grim Favors. These favors can then be redeemed for cache rewards that scale based on the difficulty level.

It's best to focus on the five-favor objectives that reward bonus favors, as well as any boss fights incorporated into Whispers. These provide a more substantial return on the time investment. Players should target objectives while running other content like Bounties or Nephalem Rifts on Torment 1. This allows efficient completion without slowing down progression.

Once a good amount of favors have been stockpiled, the player should switch their game difficulty to Torment 4 before returning to town and redeeming the caches. Each cache opened at this higher level will reward 300-400 iron chunks and rawhide on average. Additionally, the seasonal crafting materials cache has a rare chance to drop and contains thousands of bonus resources.

4. Seething Opal of Materials

The Seething Opal of Materials is the seasonal reward that grants a chance to drop crafting materials on any monster kill. To obtain it, fill the seasonal meter by completing chapters and other seasonal objectives. Once earned, equip the Seething Opal in your cube. It will now have an active effect. The Opal provides the chance to drop materials on top of the monster's normal drops. Run content where you can kill large packs of enemies swiftly, like Helltide or Nightmare Dungeons.

Nightmare Dungeons in particular work well because of already high material drops from elites and bosses. The Opal bonus applies to the end-of-dungeon rewards too, not just individual kills. While the Opal doesn't guarantee huge rewards, it passively increases gains from any activity. It provides the most value when combined with the most efficient farming methods. The Opal adds incremental materials on top of dedicated focus farms like bosses or dungeons.
