An Explanation of Elden Ring's Predetermined Concept of Death
The divine characters in Elden Ring receive their power from their Great Runes, and then certain of those powers are passed down to their children. People who are not a part of this family can, however, use the power of the Great Runes of the Elden Ring if they either possess the rune itself or have the powers of the rune granted to them as a reward for their loyalty to the person who currently carries the rune. The power derived from a Great Rune known as Elden Ring Destined Death grants the wielder the ability to finish off gods completely. This Great Rune has been around for a very long time in Elden Ring, and it is widely regarded as one of the Runes with the greatest historical significance. If the power of Destined Death is not present, then it is believed that the Erdtree will be able to resurrect any gods that are killed.
When Melina comes into possession of Destined Death, she transforms into her true form, despite the fact that she may initially appear to be a character with good intentions
Fans have speculated that Melina is actually the Gloam-Eyed Queen, which could be made clear in the Lord of the Frenzied Flame ending for Elden Ring
This would fit with the fan-favorite theory that Melina is the Gloam-Eyed Queen
Melina will appear and threaten the player, saying that she will kill them and deliver Destined Death to them, but the game will end before any further action can be taken if the player chooses to finish the game with this ending
Melina might make good on her promise to fulfill this prophecy in one of the Elden Ring add-ons, but that will depend on which of the endings for Elden Ring are considered canon
The Gloam-Eyed Queen was the one who had control of the Rune of Destined Death in the beginning, and the Godskin Apostles were there to assist her
They were known to slay gods with the Greater Rune that was bestowed upon them by the Gloam-Eyed Queen, which is where these characters get their name from. Their armor is made of the skin of gods that have already been killed. Because it appeared as though the Gloam-Eyed Queen and the Godskin Apostles did not answer to anyone, the other gods were afraid of the power that they possessed. It was only a matter of time before the Divine family of Elden Ring tried to take back the Rune of Destined Death that they had given to the Queen and revoked her ability to use it. After defeating the Gloam-Eyed Queen, the Divine family gained possession of the Great Rune of Destined Death and delivered it to Maliketh, the royal protector, so that he could safely store it. Because the Divine family had no intention of using Destined Death, not even to kill the Gloam-Eyed Queen, it was locked away for the time being to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. Some people believe that when the Gloam-Eyed Queen had her power taken away from her, she assumed the identity of Melina and went in search of an envoy to help her regain it.
This is how she ended up becoming the player character's Maiden. Other people believe that the Gloam-Eyed Queen was killed. During the time that Maliketh was keeping watch over Destined Death, one of the children who was a part of the Divine family stole it. Ranni the Witch, along with the assistance of the Black Knife Assassins, utilized the stolen Great Rune to carry out her plan to rebel against her predetermined role as a member of the Divine family by assassinating Godwyn the Golden and herself. Even though Ranni's actual body was killed, her legacy is thought to continue on in the form of puppets made in her likeness. It is widely believed that the assassination that took place on this night, which became known as the Night of Black Knives, was the reason that Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring and was subsequently imprisoned in the Erdtree. Because of this, a war broke out in the Lands Between over the remaining Great Runes shortly after the head of the Divine family was taken into custody. A very long time after the conclusion of this conflict, the player character enters the narrative with the objective of reassembling the Great Runes.
When the player character kills Maliketh, they take over as the current custodian of the Destined Death artifact. It is believed that the power of any gods that the player character vanquishes before possessing Destined Death is lost upon stealing their Great Runes. This is because the player character now possesses the runes. When the Tarnished player character finally sets fire to the Erdtree, the Rune Bearers are deprived of a proper resurrection, which comes after they have suffered the loss of their powers.
