Blizzard has finally presented the start date for the Diablo 4 open beta at an event. The start is already in a few weeks. We provides you with all the details.

When will the beta start? During the IGN Fan Fest on February 18, Blizzard released two dates for the Diablo 4 open beta:

  • Friday, March 17 - Sunday, March 19: Pre-order beta.

  • Friday, March 24 - Sunday, March 26: Open Beta for

So you won't be able to play in the corresponding open test all the way through to the release on June 6, but only for two weekends for now. We don't know yet if another open test will follow after that.

The beta will take place on PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox. Here you can find all information about the Diablo 4 open beta.

How do I participate?

If you have digitally pre-ordered one of the Diablo 4 editions, you will automatically receive access to the pre-order beta on March 17. Once you've received a code, you'll need to redeem it on the official website and select your preferred platform. You will then receive an email with a code for your platform.

You will probably be able to download the beta via the Battle.net client or the store of your console some time before the actual test. More information will follow shortly.

When can I play Diablo 4?

If you pre-order Diablo 4, you can start playing when the open beta begins. Progress between beta weekends will carry over, but after that there will be a wipe before release. Regardless of the beta, if you pre-order the Digital Deluxe or Ultimate Edition, you'll be able to play 4 days before release, which is June 2. Otherwise, you can start playing on June 6 - that's the release of Diablo 4.

What can I play in the Open Beta?

You will be able to play the entire prologue and the first act up to level 25. After that, you will be able to complete every side mission and every mission of the corresponding area of Act 1, but you will not level up any further.

It is expected that all classes will be available to you. You can find out what makes them special in our explanation of Diablo 4's class mechanics, and if you can't decide, our quiz will help you find your class in Diablo 4.

Open Beta: Start and contents

For the beta, you can play the prologue and the entire first act of Diablo 4, but only up to level 25. In return, you can play as long as you want after that - only you won't level up. You can find information about the story of Diablo 4 here.

Blizzard did not comment on the classes, so we assume that you can play and try out any of the 5 classes of Diablo 4:

  • Barbarian

  • Druid

  • Sorceress

  • Necromancer

  • Hunter

Each of these classes has a special class mechanic that is also expected to be open for testing, as long as it is available by level 25. If you need help deciding, our quiz will tell you which class suits you:

Blizzard points out that this is a test and you may still encounter bugs and unfinished content. So don't expect a finished product and report bugs if you find any. The feedback will then be used to improve the game.

Your characters' progress will be carried over between beta weekends. After that, however, there will be a wipe, so will have to start over for the release on June 6. There will also be a developer stream on February 28 with new information about the game.
